Exams

To complete the course and for it to count towards your CPD training you are required to pass the course exam. You have three opportunities to take the test. Should you fail to pass the test on your third attempt you will need to re-purchase the course.

 

Your CPD requirements

CPD for dental professionals is defined as: lectures, seminars, courses, individual study and other activities, that can be included in your CPD record if it can be reasonably expected to advance your professional development as a dentist or dental care professional and is relevant to your practice or intended practice.

In 2018 The GDC’s CPD requirements were amended and are now entitled Enhanced Continual Development or ECPD and they are set out in law. Details of these can be found at the GDC’s website at www.gdc-uk.org/professionals/cpd/enhanced-cpd

The GDC requirements are based on a minimum number of hours of CPD that you must do during the five year CPD cycle that applies to you.

The GDC will require you to tell them about all the CPD you have done at the end of your five year CPD cycle. The GDC will also invite you to provide them with certain information each year about the CPD you have done during your CPD cycle.

Dentists: You must carry out at least 100 hours of verifiable CPD every five years. You are highly recommended to carry out verifiable CPD in recommended topic areas as part of the 100 hour minimum amount.

Dental Care Professionals (inc Dental Nurses, Dental Technicians, Dental Technologists, and Oral Health Promoters): You must carry out at least 50 hours of verifiable CPD every five years.  

You are highly recommended to carry out verifiable CPD in recommended topic areas as part of the 50 hour minimum amount.

Dental Hygienists & Therapists: You are now required to carry out at least 75 hours of verifiable CPD every 5 years. You are highly recommended to carry out verifiable CPD in recommended topic areas as part of the 75 hour minimum amount.

You are highly recommended to carry out verifiable CPD in recommended topic areas as part of the 50 hour minimum amount.

 

Your CPD record: You must keep a full record of all your CPD activity for five years after the end of your CPD cycle. For example, you may be selected for an audit and will be required to provide evidence to show us that you have met our CPD requirements.

 

Your CPD record must contain:

  • A description of each item of CPD completed and whether it is verifiable CPD this should include the title, date and /or topic(s), venue and provider where applicable

 

  • The number of CPD hours for each item this should exclude breaks and travel time

 

  • Documentary evidence of each item of verifiable CPD

 

GDC Guidance

It is stipulated by the GDC that for CPD to be recognised as verifiable, the activity must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. It must have concise educational aims and objectives
    All My Dental CPD training courses have been specially developed to inform, educate and increase the understanding of the subjects being studied for the purposes of continual professional development

  2. It must have clear anticipated outcomes
    By undertaking My Dental CPD training you will gain a greater knowledge of the subjects covered. You will learn about new techniques, developments, practices and procedures and improve your ability to deliver high quality patient care.

  3. It must have quality controls
    To measure the learning outcomes, resulting from undertaking My Dental CPD study, all participants are required to pass an exam on the subjects covered by each course. The purpose of the exam is to demonstrate that participants have read, considered and understood the content of the study course. The exam must be passed in order to download a certificate verifying the completion of your CPD activity. The pass mark for the exam is 100%
